Echoes of Existence
The art of being empty
emptying out of my mothers belly was my very first act of disappearance
learning to shrink for a family who likes their daughters invisible was the second
the art of being empty is simple believe them when they say you are nothing
repeat it to yourself
like a wish
i am nothing
i am nothing
i am nothing
so often
the only reason you know you’re still alive is from the heaving
of your chest
About the typeface: Inspired by Rupi Kaur's poignant poem, 'The art of being empty,' my typeface 'Echoes of Existence' captures the essence of silenced existence and the struggles faced by girls who are not respected. Reflecting on the profound statement, "emptying out of my mother's belly," the font embodies the numbing experience of birth. Through the poetess' words, I convey the awareness of being alive solely through the heaving of one's heart, amidst a world that remains oblivious to their presence.
